IBM enables financial institutions to connect to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger for tokenized deposit transactions with beta
IBM Digital Asset Haven extends to on-premises beta deployment, giving institutions greater deployment control of their digital asset technology stack

IBM today announced two key capabilities designed to help financial institutions, governments, and other regulated organizations provide digital asset services while prioritizing enterprise-grade security and control. In a beta offering, IBM Digital Asset Haven clients can now connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger. IBM is also extending IBM Digital Asset Haven to an on-premises beta deployment option, enabling clients to manage digital asset operations entirely within their own data centers.

Full disclosure – IBM has already published two announcements earlier this summer: one for V2 and one for Premium. I pulled much of the detail for this article from those two documents, and in many cases I used the same order for the list of new elements because the IBM list seemed to be ordered from most important first. In the end, I thought it would be helpful to have a single article (this one) that describes both enhancements.
IBM i has been around for many years, and many legacy applications run on the platform. By implementing Kafka, a distributed platform that enables near-real-time communication between systems in different locations, you can use an event-driven architecture alongside your IBM i application when designing a distributed communications system, rather than treating it as a legacy system.

IBM i applications have processed business transactions reliably for decades, providing reliable, high-volume batch processing. Many IBM i shops also run interactive transaction processing, real-time database queries, and modern web and API workloads on the same platform. These applications have run high volumes of batch jobs on schedules such as end-of-day settlement processing, daily inventory reconciliation, file transfers, and many other jobs.
The data-queue APIs are among the oldest and most used APIs on the system. Two of these APIs, Send to a Data Queue (QSNDDTAQ) and Receive Data Queue (QRCVDTAQ), actually predate the System i—they were originally introduced on the IBM System/38.
