Raz-Lee Security Inc announces the release of its ICAP Client for iSecurity Anti-Virus.

iSecurity Anti-Virus has been enhanced to support the new ICAP Client. With this solution, the actual virus scanning is performed outside the IBM i, by organizational servers. This solution is important for organizations with multiple LPARs (logical partitions), especially if these LPARs are using parts of a processing unit.

ICAP, the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol specified in RFC 3507, is used to pass CPU-intensive dedicated processes to external servers. This frees up resources and standardizes the way that new features are implemented.

When the ICAP Client for iSecurity Anti-Virus is enabled, iSecurity Anti-Virus can hand off virus scanning to an inexpensive external server. Since virus scanning is CPU intensive, using ICAP reduces this load from IBM i servers.

The organizational anti-virus server can run virtually any anti-virus that exists in the market, including Symantec, McAfee, Kaspersky, and Sophos. It can provide resources for the entire organization. Multiple servers can scan the same file concurrently, sending their responses back to the ICAP Client for iSecurity Anti-Virus. If any of the servers detect a virus, worm, or trojan horse, the file is considered infected.

The response time of an ICAP-enabled virus scan is quicker than scanning objects on the IBM i itself. The CPU resources that scanning would require are saved and returned to the overall usage of the IBM i.

Using ICAP ensures that your IBM i is always protected without a performance drop.

“The ICAP Client for iSecurity Anti-Virus guards your system with cutting-edge protection technology. It reduces CPU usage and CPU peaks while enabling an organization to use the virus scanning solution of its choice. The ICAP Client provides a consistent solution that frees your IBM i CPU from the burden of virus scanning, so you can protect your systems effectively and efficiently.” says Shmuel Zailer, CEO, Raz-Lee Security.

He adds: “With the ICAP Client for iSecurity Anti-Virus, the IBM i takes another step toward matching the capabilities of other servers. It can now benefit from advanced technologies available in the market.”

ICAP Client for iSecurity Anti-Virus is now available.
