Rocket API uncovers hard-to-access data to give users competitive advantage and new income stream.

Rocket Software Inc. today announced the latest addition to its suite of modernization tools for IBM i and other legacy platforms with the launch of Rocket ® API for IBM i. Rocket API helps users participate in the API economy and monetize their data by making it even easier for them to transform rigid, green-screen based workflows into the intuitive web and mobile experiences today’s users demand.  With Rocket API, real-time transactional data from host-based systems can be easily accessed by modern programming languages without requiring modifications to the original source code or disrupting connections between existing APIs and the applications that call them. This enables organizations to unlock the value of the transactional systems that run their businesses without the time, cost and risk usually associated with API modernization. The product is available immediately here.

“Rocket API provides a fast and easy way for users to take advantage of data that has traditionally been hard for them to access and use,” said Dan Magid, Chief Technologist of IBM i Solutions for Rocket Software.  “IT organizations can now unlock the value of their host-based applications to deliver enhanced customer experiences and incorporate them into web and mobile applications. Rocket API customers now have the tools to leverage the API economy to monetize the value of their most valuable resource – their data – in real time.”

One early customer already seeing benefits from Rocket API is OneMain, the largest consumer loan originator in the United States. “Rocket API has paid big dividends for us,” said James Owens, CTO of OneMain, which is using Rocket API to modernize its multichannel communications to employees, partners and customers. “Before, we built APIs to our mission-critical IBM i applications manually with Java; with Rocket, it now takes developers less than half the time to do the same job.”

Rocket Software empowers organizations to create legendary impact in the world through innovation in legacy technologies. With deep expertise in IBM Z, IBM Power, and database and connectivity solutions, Rocket provides solutions that power tens of thousands of global businesses, solving real problems and making real-world impact. Rocket is a privately held U.S. corporation headquartered in the Boston area with centers of excellence strategically located throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
