Vision Solutions is introducing Migrate While Active Quick Start, a no-downtime service for companies requiring hardware, operating system, or third-party application upgrades or migrations.

"Migrate While Active makes upgrades and migrations much easier, more secure, and less stressful," says Peter Sa, vice president of services for Vision Solutions. "Traditional hardware and operating system migrations require users to save information on tape, then use them to restore the new system, and finally test and cut over users after the successful restore. During this process, the production system is down and no work can be done. Migrate While Active Quick Start eliminates that pressure," he says.

Sa adds, "There is a high probability the restore from tape had corrupted data, which means the process would need to be aborted and rescheduled for another date. This causes a tremendous amount of stress for the entire organization to get it right the first time."

Generally, upgrades and migrations happen during off-hours to avoid business disruptions during the day. With Migrate While Active, IT departments are no longer restricted to nights or weekends to keep their systems updated, the company says.

Migrate While Active incorporates comprehensive planning and testing to ensure data is accurately moved before the upgrade or migration is complete. Users can run old and new systems in parallel modes to verify data integrity. Once the data transfer is secure, the final upgrade or migration occurs. In many cases, it only takes a few minutes.

The Migrate While Active addresses two other top IT department concerns:

•   Experience. Companies expose valuable business information during upgrades and migrations. Vision Solutions, a 20-year-old high availability and disaster recovery pioneer, has completed hundreds of successful migrations and encountered every imaginable scenario. This means no worries, surprises or unexpected delays, the company says.

•   Product flexibility. No matter which Vision high availability or disaster recovery product is in place-iTERA, MIMIX or ORION Solutions-Migrate While Active gets users to their new hardware or operating system fast and reliably. The service is driven by Vision's market-leading high availability and disaster recovery tools, as well as a team of skilled individuals with vast knowledge of these products.

"Vision played a key role in Kraft's successful migration. It was a major project for us, and because of that, we are thankful for their big contribution," says Edna Sevilla, project manager for Kraft. "Everyone at Vision was professional and skilled on all levels. We couldn't have done it without them," he said.
