V5.0 of its managed file transfer solution features automatic file scanning using Secure Shell hands-free encryption, Secure Shell FTP, integrated PGP Command Line 9, and policy-based logging.

Patrick Townsend Security Solutions (PTSS) has announced the release of a major upgrade to its managed file transfer solution, Alliance All-Ways Secure. The new release improves configuration, transfer, and logging of secure file transfers and makes it easier for IBM i users to comply with all data privacy laws, the company said.

“Transferring data to customers, vendors, and other business partners is an essential part of doing business today,” says Patrick Townsend, PTSS founder and CTO. Such transfer also are the most vulnerable point in any organization’s security strategy, he says, noting that All-Ways Secure 5.0 ensures a company's data stays protected even were it to be stolen.

CEO John Earl commented: “We know it’s almost inevitable that data will escape from any organization. But with the strong encryption capability of this product, data that gets out is simply not usable by the bad guys. This is exactly the kind of protection enterprises need against today’s cyber-criminals,” says Earl.

Some of the many new features in Alliance All-Ways Secure 5.0 that make it easier for customers to protect their data include the following:

  • Enhanced Automatic File Scanning

PTSS’s automatic file scanning has been enhanced to include the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol. Customers who use SSH can configure All-Ways Secure to automatically encrypt files before transmission and decrypt them afterward. This greatly reduces the amount of manual effort required to manage file transfers.

  • Enhanced SSH setup automation helps decrease workloads

For customers who use Shell FTP (SSH sFTP), All-Ways Secure 5.0 simplifies configuration and enables automatic certificate exchange. Customers can now automatically connect to a remote SSH server, retrieve the needed authentication certificates, and prepare their System i for secure FTP sessions with SSH with minimal human intervention.

  • Secure communication without compromise

System i users need to receive encrypted files without opening another hole in their firewall. This new release supports Secure Shell FTP (SSH sFTP) with 128-bit encryption. IBM i customers can now securely transfer data without asking for new port “holes” in the firewall and without having to negotiate with their own networking department for security exceptions.

  • Full implementation of PGP Command Line 9 included

PGP Command Line is the de facto standard for commercial file transfer. PGP Command Line 9 is now fully integrated in All-Ways Secure, giving users fully managed file transfer, user access control, and system logging for encrypted file transfers. In addition to all of the well-known features of the OpenPGP standard, PGP Command Line 9 also provides key server support and Additional Decryption Key (ADK) support for compliance.

  • End-to-end logging allows tracking of all encrypt and decrypt actions

Security logging is a crucial part of any security application on the System i. Now, All-Ways Secure allows security administrators to establish security logging by policy instead of leaving this crucial step to application developers. This release also supports detailed logging of encryption and decryption events at the database column level as well as for tape, spooled file, IFS, and save file encryption. Customers can also deploy the optional Alliance LogAgent product to send security events to an external SIM or log collection server. In addition to logging significant file transfer events, this product also captures significant diagnostic information to help customers identify and remediate connection problems.
