HelpSystems announced that organizations are placing more emphasis on cybersecurity and high availability than ever before. Concerns around IBM i security more than doubled year-over-year, while 20 percent more survey takers are considering high availability solutions as they plan for their IT environments. These are key results of the 2017 IBM i Marketplace Survey.

"IBM i shops share the same challenges and initiatives as the rest of the IT world with cybersecurity and high availability topping the list," says Tom Huntington, Executive Vice President of Technical Solutions at HelpSystems and the author of the survey. "the unique challenge that the IBM i community faces today is an aging workforce, which continues to be an issue with 44.7 percent of the survey takers citing IBM i skills as a top concern."

65.7% of survey respondents are running fully unattended - up 15% from 2015. This indicates that several IBM i shops are investing in automation solutions to overcome IBM i skills and staffing challenges.

The IBM i platform ranks very high in customer satisfaction and this survey confirms the IBM i market is highly stable. For the third straight year, more than 94 percent of survey participants state IBM i delivers a higher return on investment than other platforms. And 24.6 percent of the respondents shared they plan to increase their IBM i footprint by adding new applications and technologies to the popular operating system, which is three times greater than the number planning to leave the platform.

“IBM i users’ satisfaction with this platform is exceptionally high,” says Chris Heim, CEO, HelpSystems. “We’re pleased to see IBM i’s strong performance is leading so many organizations to increase the investment on this OS.”
