Arpeggio Software, a provider of security software solutions for the IBM i, announced the release of a free version of its secure FTP product ARP-SFTP. ARP-SFTP is a native implementation of sFTP based on the OpenSSH library. It enables IBM i users to automate any type of file transfer process over a secure shell (SSH) connection with support for DB2 files as well as IFS.

Previous to this product release companies faced the choice of either using an IBM port of SSH that runs in the PASE environment or buying expensive software that runs in a non-native fashion such as Java or PASE. These options provide no real control in automating sFTP processes and no integration with other native processes. Furthermore the IBM SSH port does not support password based authentication nor any type of key management. With the introduction of the free version of ARP-SFTP IBM i users have an affordable and truly native solution for automating sFTP transfers.

"ARP-SFTP provides a CL command interface for scripting any type of sFTP process" states Richard Brown, CEO of Arpeggio. "Since every sFTP command is a CL command you can automate any sFTP process and build recovery steps into a script. The free version of ARP-SFTP also has a comprehensive key manager in the native IBM i environment making it possible to fully implement sFTP scripts in a matter of minutes."

The free version of ARP-SFTP provides many other powerful features including:

  • Support for many SSH server key types such as RSA1, RSA2, DSA and ECDSA
  • Various authentication methods including password, key based and dual factor
  • Prevention of man in the middle attacks through server key comparison
