Q: Do you know of any conversion software I can purchase to enable me to convert OfficeVision/400 documents to Microsoft Word?

A: You probably don't need to buy any conversion software to do this. OfficeVision already gives you the capability to convert documents into other formats. The trick is to convert the document into a format that both OfficeVision and Microsoft Word can understand. One type of document that works with both word processors is RFTDCA, which stands for Revisable Form Text Document Content Architecture. To convert an OfficeVision document to RFTDCA format, you can use the Convert Document (CVTDOC) command and specify RFTDCA in the TYPE parameter. For example, to convert a document called MYDOC in a folder called MYFLR, you would enter the following command:

 CVTDOC DOC(MYDOC) FLR(MYFLR) + TYPE(RFTDCA) 

Next, you would need to copy the document from your AS/400 to your PC. One way you can do this is to use the shared folders function of Client Access. Once the document is on your PC, you can open it with Word. If for some reason Word is unable to open the document, it could be because you didn't install the RFTDCA conversion option when you originally installed Word. If so, you can just rerun Word Setup to install the RFTDCA conversion option.
