New electronic tamper and temperature sensing RFID cable seals offer enhanced security capabilities for shipping containers, bulk carriers, trailers and cold chain assets.

CYBRA Corporation, the developer of award-winning MarkMagic™ Bar Code Labels, RFID Tags, Electronic Forms, and Report Writing Software and EdgeMagic® RFID Platform Software, announced today the newest addition to the Company’s Lock & EnCode line of RFID seals. The new Lock & EnCode™ RFID SmartSeals are BAP (Battery Assisted Passive) RFID Cable Seals that combine long-range RFID-reading performance with temperature, cable insert and cable cut sensors.

The new electronic tamper sensing seals are designed to meet demanding logistics, cold chain and homeland security applications that require enhanced security such as securing shipping containers, bulk carriers, trailers. They are also ideal for other high value assets such as IT and laboratory equipment. The SmartSeals were announced here at the 14th annual RFID Journal LIVE! Conference and Exhibition at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

CYBRA Lock & EnCode™ RFID SmartSeals, featuring EM Microelectronics silicon and a five year battery life, are designed for global operation between 860 – 960MHz. The seals are compliant with ISO/IEC 18000-63, ISO/IEC 18000-64 (TOTAL), and EPC Class-1 Generation-2.

Featuring long range RFID reading — up to 18 feet with circular polarized antenna – the SmartSeal’s embedded sensors track the seal’s state. The galvanized steel cable unravels when cut, thus preventing reuse.

According to CYBRA’s Sheldon Reich, Chief Solution Architect, “The SmartSeal meets e-seal requirements at a fraction of the cost of active RFID e-seals on the market. In addition to recording the date and time when sealed, it also records the date and time of tampering if the cable is cut.  The SmartSeal’s temperature sensor adds additional functionality logging whether ambient temperature falls below or rises above programmed thresholds.”

CYBRA Lock & EnCode™ SmartSeals are delivered with programmed RFID User Data encoded and are permalocked to match serial numbers supplied by customer at time of order. The SmartSeals are laser printed with customer logo or name, serial number, and Code 128 bar code.
