Developers now can provide custom themes for lookserver and deliver applications as custom-styled HTML pages accessible on any browser.

looksoftware has announced the release of lookserver 9.0 with key features including enhanced support for mobile devices, scalability and performance, additional controls and features for navigation and layout, and enhanced support for new CSS features.

looksoftware CEO Brendan Kay says that the gap between thin and rich clients is narrower than ever before: "HTML5 and CSS3 have introduced many significant improvements in the presentation and operation of Web applications. It is now possible to create browser-based applications that feel very similar to native applications. lookserver 9.0 is faster, richer, and more flexible and provides high quality browser-based access for mobile and desktop devices alike.”

First released in 2005, lookserver is a zero-deployment, server-based tool that delivers IBM i applications as html Web pages and published Web services. When used in conjunction with looksoftware’s dynamic recognition engine, lookserver 9.0 automatically detects the type of device or client requesting access, and delivers an optimized thin client version of the application.

Scaling and performance enhancements such as faster application access and quicker screen rendering have been delivered through use of a single repository for multiple sessions, while the optimization of object locking has eliminated “user-queuing” for faster user response times.

Navigation has been improved through the introduction of looksoftware’s smartnav control, allowing users to optimize workflows and minimize time spent clicking between screens. The use of looksoftware’s masterform feature delivers more consistent, less cluttered screens and greatly enhances the user experience.

lookserver 9.0 delivers an excellent out-of-the-box user experience with powerful theme support. The new version includes support for the latest CSS capabilities. Developers can now provide custom themes for lookserver, and deliver applications as custom-styled HTML pages that are accessible on any browser. This enables zero-footprint, browser-based application delivery that is as visually rich as the desktop client, while optimization for tablets, smartphones and desktops is all done using the one toolset.
