I have just begun to regularly use Performance Tools on the AS/400. I have been able to get it to run by itself. Now for my problem. How do you get the system to purge old performance reports? Currently, I use PDM to go through the files, deleting old ones. The only alternative I see is having the utility create the files with the same name (e.g., MON, TUE,...). Is there a better way?

There is an easy way to delete old performance reports; it is just not in an obvious place. Go to the performance menu (GO PERFORM), and take Option 6 (Configure and manage tools). Then take Option 2 (Delete performance data), and that will allow you to select which performance runs to delete.

FYI-IBM just released a red book on AS/400 Performance Management. Included is a diskette (5 1/2-inch) containing some automated performance statistics collection tools, graphs, etc. I haven't implemented it yet, but plan to soon-looks like good stuff. It will save performance history in the measured profile file which uses very little space. The book is called AS/400 Performance Management Version 2 Release 1 (V2R1), GG24-3723-00.
