Q: When do LAN Server/400 PTFs get applied and activated?
A: In AS/400 terms, PTFs for LAN Server/400 can be applied immediately; a system initial program load (IPL) is not needed. They are not activated immediately, however. Instead, they get activated at vary on time of the network server. Specifically, for C drive PTFs, each network server gets the fix provided in the PTF at the vary on following the apply of the PTF. However, because the D drive is shared between network servers (of the same language), PTFs for this drive get activated when the first network server using the disk is varied on.
