SafeData, LLC, a technology company focused on helping companies protect their data, minimize downtime and recover and restore data quickly, today announced its new backup and recovery appliance for both the IBM System i and Windows environments. SafeData Vault provides customers with both local and remote backups allowing them to easily and quickly recover data from their own on-site vault, but also providing the peace of mind that their data is backed up off-site in a secure data center.

"SafeData Vault is the best of both worlds," explained Peter Briggs, president of SafeData.  "Recovering data over the Internet can take time.  With SafeData Vault, customers can recover data locally if a file is lost or a computer has been affected by a virus.  However, if a disaster occurs, such as a flood, hurricane or major system failure, the off-site backup provides insurance that their data is protected and recoverable.  As the first appliance of its kind  for the IBM System i community, SafeData Vault is a complement to our SafeData/DR managed service offering and there is no additional cost for organizations that want to ensure their business continuity with both local and off-site backup and recovery options."

SafeData Vault provides customers the ability to create "vaults" locally and off-site without additional expense.  For one monthly subscription fee, SafeData offers clients a better way to manage on-site backups, as well as provide a replicated set of storage off-site with full recovery to its inventory of System i and virtual Windows systems.  Recovery can be accomplished in a matter of hours and is often more reasonably priced than traditional based tape recovery methods using hot sites.

Briggs added, "Being able to recover systems in 70 percent less time for the same financial investment is very compelling.  All System i shops should have a good recovery plan and SafeData Vault brings rapid recovery to companies without the large expense associated with other solutions."
