Global managed hosting company cites significant improvement in backup/recovery efficiency and reliability over previous solution.

Nexsan, an independent provider of disk-based data storage systems, has announced that Connectria Hosting, a global managed hosting company, has deployed the Nexsan Flexible Storage Platform in support of the company's cloud-based backup and recovery services for enterprise clients. In combination with CommVault Simpana data and information management software, Nexsan's storage systems have dramatically improved Connectria's backup and recovery efficiency when compared to the previously deployed solution.

Connectria Hosting is a global managed hosting company that provides managed services, cloud hosting, dedicated server hosting and custom hosting services for enterprise customers. Connectria offers flexible cloud solutions that include public, private, hybrid and cloud storage options. As a growing managed hosting company, Connectria's cloud hosting customers rely upon them to deliver high availability guarantees. To achieve superior service levels in a data center with more than 100 TB in data protection storage alone, the managed hosting company wanted to upgrade its cloud backup and recovery infrastructure.

Connectria searched for a robust, enterprise-class solution to meet its high standards for service. They found that many storage solution companies were too unstable or uneconomical for an enterprise data center environment. Every solution, that is, until Connectria found the Nexsan / CommVault combination.

"We solicited feedback from industry colleagues and were quickly pointed to Nexsan and CommVault," said Rusty Putzler, vice president of Engineering for Connectria. "Everyone who had used the combination of technologies validated their reliability and performance. Once we performed a trial we agreed. Nexsan and CommVault just work. Plus, they are truly 'off the chart' in terms of operational efficiency, and this translates into reliable, high performance services for our enterprise customers."

With the help of their deployment partner, EAGLE Software, Connectria has deployed multiple Nexsan SASBeast and Nexsan SATABeast storage solutions based on the Nexsan Flexible Storage Platform. To support the backup and recovery operations for the data housed on these systems, Connectria selected CommVault Simpana data and information management software. Connectria achieved significant efficiencies with the combined solution by reducing IT resource requirements, simplifying management and lowering operational costs. This was supplemented by enhanced reliability, technological innovations and advanced power management, providing up to 60 percent energy savings compared to the previous solution.

"For Connectria, achieving a high-efficiency data center design was critical," said Dave Hiechel, president and CEO, EAGLE Software. "The combination of Nexsan and CommVault technologies achieves this efficiency and more. The powerful combination gives Connectria a distinct advantage over its competition in terms of both performance and reliability."

Key benefits Connectria receives from the new Nexsan / CommVault solution include:

  • High performance RAID storage systems that are ideal for disk-to-disk backup and recovery operations, especially when leveraging fibre channel-based interfaces
  • Energy-efficient AutoMAID Level-3 technology which enables Connectria to spin-down the disk arrays when not in use, providing significant energy and cost savings
  • High density storage, enabling Connectria to conserve valuable rack space in its fully populated data center
  • CommVault Simpana software to provide a single unified data protection platform for a more modern, secure and efficient cloud-based approach to data recovery

"Cloud-based managed hosting services are on the rise and providers such as Connectria need enterprise-class, high-value solutions they can rely on," said Victoria Grey, senior vice president, Marketing, Nexsan. "Together, Nexsan and CommVault offer a distinct combination of price, performance, and reliability for operations in the cloud. It's truly the ultimate in efficiency with uncompromising performance."
