VYCON, the designer and manufacturer of environmentally-friendly, high-speed energy storage flywheel systems, has announced that it is working with Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota in its commitment to going green.  The healthcare provider is replacing the lead acid batteries used for backup power in its data centers with VYCON's VDC flywheel backup system. The VYCON flywheel UPS system has been in operation since April with excellent results, the firm reports.

Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is taking a leadership role by replacing its hospitals' traditional battery backup system with an environmentally-safe flywheel system. The flywheel does not contain any chemicals and does not present a disposal hazard. Moreover, the VYCON flywheel backup system takes up significantly less space than battery solutions.
