Devon IT, a leading provider of thin clients and alternative desktop solutions, debuted its new 6050/8050 thin client at the recently concluded 2008 Citrix Summit in Orlando, Fla. The new model replaces the 6030/8030 series and offers major upgrades to performance and reliability, the company says.

"Devon IT continues to grow its client base internationally, from China to India to South America," says Joe Makoid, president Devon IT. "This ROHS-compliant thin client model will help us continue to advance in Europe as well, as functionality, diminished electricity costs, and lower total cost of ownership benefits are in line with what our clients in these countries are anxious to implement."

The stateless unit boasts the latest VIA C7M-ULV processor, is ROHS-compliant and has a smaller form factor than the previous unit, ideal for users with limited space. The low voltage processor and utilization of DDR2 memory make these units more power efficient than ever. The unit is available with Devon IT's proprietary operating system, DeTOS, or Windows XP Embedded for users who require flexibility or the installation of custom applications. Both operating systems include an embedded browser, the latest RDP and Citrix ICA clients, as well as many other built in clients for maximum connectivity. Other key features for the terminal include:

  • 128MB DOM 256MB DDR2 RAM (6050)
  • 1 GB DOM/1 GB DDR2 RAM (8050)
  • Displays Windows desktops, web browsers, and applications from multi-user Windows 2000 and Microsoft Server 2003
  • Optimized for VDI
  • Full multimedia support with 6 USB, 1 Serial, 1 Parallel, 2 PS/2, 1 VGA
  • Easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI)
  • Fanless with no moving parts (i.e. hard drive) to fail
  • Unit available the end of February with prices starting at $299

Devon IT showcased other thin clients at the conference and expo including the SafeBook, the first mobile thin client notebook, the revolutionary HC10 Workstation Blade, and other thin client terminals with prices starting at just $139.
