SkyView Partners has announced a new version of its popular SkyView Policy Minder for i5/OS and OS/400.

"There are a number of exciting new enhancements to our product," says Carol Woodbury, president of SkyView Partners. "Because compliance requirements keep changing, we have tried to add functionality that will help everyone develop processes that are easier to implement and deploy. This will not only answer auditor concerns but also make administrators' lives easier," she said.

"For example, with this new release of Policy Minder setting up an automated process to deal with inactive profiles becomes very easy. You can set up a procedure to automatically disable profiles or remove their passwords. You can even set up an automated process to delete them if you wish. In addition to several other new enhancements that will ease compliance requirements, we've opened up our functionality to third parties. All key commands in Policy Minder can be called as an API, allowing third parties to integrate our security compliance capabilities into the scope of their products," said Woodbury.

"The granularity of the additional command set in this new release has enabled us to integrate Policy Minder with our DataThread product, creating a unique opportunity for us in the market. Together, Policy Minder 1.3 and DataThread provide customers with a high performance, real time compliance solution," said Bill Brennan of Innovatum Inc.

Saves Considerable Time

"When it comes to security management, Policy Minder makes it very easy to put in place, monitor, and stay consistent with your security scheme. The new version 1.3 enhancements make the product even better and will save significant systems administration time," noted Brian Hole, manager System i technology at Les Schwab Tire Company.

Woodbury said she designed SkyView Policy Minder for i5/OS and OS/400 to enforce compliance with corporate security policies. The product checks details like user profile settings, library, directory, and object ownership and authorities, adopted authority settings of programs, and service programs auditing values of objects, file shares, system values, authorities to authorization lists, and more to see if they are in compliance with a stated security policy. PolicyMinder includes a FixIt command, to put non-compliant items back in compliance, and comprehensive reporting capabilities.

In the new version—SkyView Policy Minder 1.3—the product can automatically take action on inactive profiles either disabling them or deleting them. In addition, the product now includes a greatly expanded system value category, with the ability to report on and fix nearly all i5/OS system values. The authorization list category has been enhanced to better manage the security of authorization lists and enable the FixIt functionality for this category.

Also, individual Policy Minder commands can be called so that third parties can integrate Policy Minder functionality with their applications. There are many other enhancements beyond those listed here. SkyView Policy Minder is designed to eliminate the need to manually gather data, and perform analysis, and provide documentation for a security audit or ongoing compliance requirements. It also provides information to help i5/OS administrators more easily manage their systems. Policy Minder can also be used as a tool for efficiently implementing object-level security on your systems.

"We are very excited about this new release, said John Vanderwall, CEO of SkyView Partners, Inc. The compliance world is changing and this new release is an example of how we listen to our customers' new requirements and respond to them quickly," he said. "Our goal is to continually improve our products to help our customers cut down the amount of time spent on compliance duties as well as keeping every-day security configuration verification to a very manageable level." General Availability of this new release is set for August 17th.
