CYBRA Corporation, the developer of MarkMagic Bar Code Labels, RFID Tags and Forms Software for the IBM System i server has announced EdgeMagic Integrated RFID Control Software for the System i. The native application, announced Monday at RFID World in Dallas, is scheduled for release to customers by the third quarter of 2007.

Responding to requests for a native System i solution for reading RFID tags and managing EPC (electronic product code) compliance mandates, EdgeMagic is designed to manage edge devices and read RFID tags. It is totally integrated with System i ERP/WMS applications, the company says.

Among the features included in the new product are:

  • System i Control of Readers and Edge Devices - EdgeMagic controls fixed and handheld RFID readers, light stacks, sensors, diverters, and other edge devices. Supported readers include the Motorola/Symbol XR400 Fixed Reader and the Motorola/Symbol MC-9090G Mobile RFID Computer.
  • Complete Tag Commissioning - EdgeMagic includes EPCGlobal Gen 2 SGTIN-96, SSCC-96, DOD-96 and other RFID tag commissioning.
  • MarkMagic Native System i Print Engine - The included award-winning MarkMagic print engine supports RFID smart label printers and printer applicators from Avery Dennison, Datamax, Paxar/Monarch, IBM, Intermec, SATO, Printronix , and Zebra.
  • System i ALE Engine - EdgeMagic includes an EPCGlobal ALE (application level event) compliant interface to filter what information the System i ERP and WMS applications need from the raw stream of RFID reads.
  • RFID Tag Validation and Association of Cases to Pallets - EdgeMagic manages pallet and case relationships to retain the integrity of transport units with load units.
  • Major ERP/WMS Package Interfaces - EdgeMagic retrieves item, pack, and order information from such leading ERP/WMS packages as VAI S2K Enterprise Management Software and JD Edwards.

"As EPC compliance mandates have grown, our customers have been asking us for a native System i RFID management solution," says Harold Brand, president of CYBRA Corporation. "This new product is built with the same philosophy as our award-winning MarkMagic product. It enables System i customers to implement advanced RFID applications without costly custom programming." In fact, Brand concludes, "with the included, certified EPC-compliant label templates, System i customers will be able to roll out an industrial strength RFID solution with little or no programming."
