Shield Advanced Solutions has announced a new journal receiver apply for the IBM System i5ùReceiver Apply Program/400 (RAP/400).

The product is an affordable option for the disaster recovery market in a situation where switching to the target system is only implemented if the source system is lost. This product provides data replication for disaster recovery purposes.

Receiver Apply Program/400 (RAP/400) provides the customer with a process that automatically applies journal entries from a remote journal receiver.

Not intended for high availability, the main users of this product will beû

  • Data vaulting providers who provide data storage on an LPAR'd IBM System i5.
  • Customers who need data replication for disaster recovery.

RAP/400 uses proprietary technology to apply entries from a journal received attached to a remote journal. The product has no concept of the source system and has no control over the management of the journal or objects on the source system. On notification of a receiver being detached from the remote journal, RAP/400 will apply all the entries from that journal to the local copies of the objects. Any objects which cannot be updated will be registered in an output file.

This initial version of the RAP/400 has limited recovery built in.

Benefits include:

  • Reduced data loss
  • Continuous data updates
  • C language and API calls reduce overhead
  • Simple to install and manage

Technical requirements: RAP/400 runs on any iSeries with OS/400 i5/OS V5R4M0 upwards.

Price US $2000. Free 30-day software trial and annual maintenance agreements available. For more information visit Shield Advanced Solutions. Shield is an IBM Advanced Business Partner.
