System i Developer, the consortium of top educators on IBM i development technologies, today opens registration for the next RPG & DB2 Summit, which will take place March 18-20, 2014 at the Embassy Suites Outdoor World in Grapevine, TX. In addition to the three-day conference, attendees can register for optional pre-conference Headstart seminars on Monday, March 17. Pre-conference electives include Susan Gantner’s RSE/RDP/RDi Hands-On Workshop, which sold out at the most recent RPG & DB2 Summit in October 2013, as well as a hands-on PHP workshop and two half-day SQL seminars.

According to System i Developer partner Susan Gantner, demand for the main Summit event was also strong. “We also had to close registration for the October 2013 conference in Minneapolis because we hit capacity,” she said. “It’s important to us to keep the Summit small enough that every attendee can get personal attention from the speakers.”

In March 2014, Summit attendees will have one of the first opportunities to get detailed information about the recent TR7 RPG free format enhancements in person from the architect, IBM’s Barbara Morris. “I’ve been wanting to talk about it for ages, and I haven’t been able to due to confidentiality, so I’m super excited! It’s free-form versions of H, F, D, and P specs...it’s just a way cool way to code… I can’t wait until everyone gets their hands on it,” said Barbara in a recent interview with Paul Tuohy.

System i Developer is also planning new and updated sessions on the newest coding techniques in several other areas, including SQL and CL. Each of the sessions focuses on helping programmers deliver modern applications on the IBM i faster and more effectively.

The RPG & DB2 Summit sessions are organized into over a dozen Session Roadmaps designed to help attendees focus on courses that address their immediate training needs. Roadmap topics include Blending SQL with RPG, Exploiting DB2 with SQL, Web Services, Mobilizing RPG Apps, Web Programming, Query/Reporting/BI, ILE and Modular Programming and others.
