October St. Louis Conference to feature training on practical ways of extending RPG applications.

System i Developer, the consortium of top educators on IBM i development technologies and producers of the RPG & DB2 Summit, announced today a new session roadmap on RPG-based mobile applications at the next RPG & DB2 Summit, October 17-19 at the Hilton St. Louis Frontenac in Missouri. Joining 10 other roadmaps under the conference theme,"i can, can you?", sessions within the “RPG on the Move: Mobilizing Your Apps” roadmap will explore practical ways to extend RPG applications to mobile devices such as iPad/iPhone, Droid and Blackberry.

“With the explosion of mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones, more RPGers will be thinking about the viability of iPad and Droid interfaces,” explains Paul Tuohy, System i Developer partner. “Summit attendees count on us to cut through the hype of new technologies like this and give them sensible advice on their options so they can go back to the office and be productive immediately."

Bob McNally, IT Project Leader at a Fortune 150 automotive supplier, confirms the practical nature of the Summit. After attending the March 2011 conference, his development team experienced ROI almost immediately.

“The Summit was fantastic,” he says. “After I returned, I shared a few of the tips and techniques with our developers. One used an SQL tip from Summit to reduce the number of lines of code and decrease the run-time of his program from ten minutes to 30 seconds. The Summit is an extremely valuable investment for us.”

System i Developer partners Susan Gantner, Jon Paris, Paul Tuohy and Skip Marchesani, and guest instructors Scott Klement, Mike Cain, Kent Milligan and Barbara Morris, lead the speaker line-up in October. In addition to RPG-based mobile applications, they will cover topics such as using SQL with DB2 and RPG, Web Programming, Web Services, ILE and Modular Programming, Modern Development Tools, Optimizing Database and SQL Performance, and more.

Optional half-day Headstart Seminars on Sunday, October 16, provide attendees with intensive concentration on four different topics prior to the core conference. Headstart Seminars topics include Almost Everything You Need to Know About SQL, Intro to XML, Web Services for RPGers, and Stored Procedures, Functions and Triggers.

Early registration pricing of $1,095 extends through August 12, 2011. Headstart seminars are priced at $215 for one, or $295 for two.

The RPG & DB2 Summit is sponsored by three leading media organizations including MC Press Online, IBM Systems Magazine, and System iNetwork.
