SimpleJDBC makes it possible to use the many tools available to leverage standard JDBC interfaces and ease working with relational data.

JNetDirect, Inc. has announced its sponsorship of the new SimpleJDBC Open Source Project. A JDBC driver for Amazon's SimpleDB, SimpleJDBC, makes it possible to use the myriad of tools available that leverage standard JDBC interfaces to facilitate working with relational data. SimpleJDBC enables Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) tools, like Scriptella, to import or extract data from SimpleDB, with all communication taking place via Amazon's Software Developers' Kit.

"SimpleDB isn't a traditional relational database -- in fact, it's quite different," noted Andrew Glover, project owner, president of Beacon50 and member of the JNetDirect Board of Directors. "Nevertheless, it is possible to map basic SQL commands, and therefore JDBC, to the core API offered by Amazon. Using SimpleJDBC is straightforward as all that is required to use the driver is an Amazon Web Services account, Java 5, and the jar files provided in the download."

SimpleJDBC supports basic SQL inserts, selects, updates, and deletes with the standard JDBC interfaces developers have worked with for years. The free open source SimpleJDBC driver, along with more information, documentation, and code examples, is available via www.jnetdirect.com/index.php/products/simplejdbc.html. Information and resources about Amazon's SimpleDB is available at aws.amazon.com/simpledb/.

"As an innovative leader in software products that improve customers' connectivity to their data resources, JNetDirect is proud to sponsor the SimpleJDBC Open Source Project. This is the beginning of bridging the worlds of SQL and NoSQL databases," said Ron Wright, JNetDirect president and CEO.
