Zend, the PHP Company, announced that IBM has partnered with Zend to make enterprise-grade PHP support a core offering within IBM SmartCloud.

IBM SmartCloud Application Services is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) that provides a suite of cloud-based development tools, workload patterns, middleware and databases. Potential clients are able to purchase this Platform as a Service (Paas) capability to support both their Java and PHP based applications. The PHP capabilities on IBM SmartCloud will be provided via a built-in PHP pattern from Zend, the leader in enterprise PHP technology.

The IBM Zend Server V6 Application Pattern for PHP will be available from IBM and provide all of the capabilities of Zend Server 6, the leading PHP application platform for deploying, running and managing mobile and web apps. This template will be fully backed by the benefits of IBM technical support.

“Zend has heard considerable demand from our enterprise clients for additional PaaS options that provide a highly scalable, automated, enterprise-class cloud-based environment for their apps” said Zend CEO Andi Gutmans. “It is great to see IBM recognize the pervasive adoption of PHP within larger companies and serve this need by providing an enterprise-class solution. Zend has a longstanding collaborative relationship with IBM, dating back to our original technical collaboration on the integration of PHP with IBM DB2 database software, and we enjoy strong existing partnerships around the IBM i platform, IBM SmartCloud and IBM PureSystems. I couldn’t be more pleased to see the continued expansion of our partnership.”

IBM SmartCloud Application Services delivers a secure, automated, cloud-based environment that supports the full lifecycle of accelerated application development, deployment and delivery. SmartCloud Application Services provides teams with an enterprise-class infrastructure, enhanced security and pay-per-use. The IBM Zend Server Application Pattern for PHP equips teams with the software infrastructure to support rapid releases of PHP applications, and provides those apps with a high level of reliability, performance and security. This includes the ability to scale PHP applications automatically to handle load changes, to be notified of potential application issues before they occur, and to maximize availability with seamless application failover.
