Vision Solutions, a leading high availability and disaster recovery solutions provider in IBM Power Systems markets, reported this week that The Jackson Clinic in Tennessee is relying on EchoStream for AIX to maintain healthy business operations for its nine medical clinics throughout western Tennessee.

"We needed a replication solution that easily and reliably backed up our data to a second IBM System p server," said William Butler, Jackson Clinic's system and MIMIX administrator. "We chose EchoStream for AIX because of its advanced continuous data protection functionality that allows us to go back in time to recover lost or corrupted data."

About six years ago, the clinic went completely paperless to digitally store all medical records, X-rays, patient charts, MRIs and appointments. The medical practice's paperless environment involves highly sensitive data and time-critical communications, accentuating the importance of a reliable data protection solution. Any interruption or loss of important data-or access to applications-could be a life or death challenge for the clinic. The Jackson Clinic now has continuous data protection (CDP) which provides the widest range of recovery points for restoring data. If data is lost accidentally or maliciously, they can now return to the exact point before the loss, achieving easy, instant recovery.

Comprised of more than 100 physicians and specialists, the medical practice also uses EchoStream to comply with HIPAA requirements for data protection and availability. According to Butler, one of the most important benefits of Vision Solutions' technology is the high confidence level in knowing critical data is always protected and always available. Plus, with EchoStream's flexible, user-controlled options, the clinic now has the capability to reverse all data issues back to any point in time (down to the second) within the prior 24 hours.

Vision Solutions' EchoStream ensures the practice management and electronic medical record systems are available at all times. When load-intensive reporting needs to be completed, Butler uses EchoStream's TimeView feature to easily perform the task on the remote backup machine. TimeView allows the user to create a virtual yet fully functional read/write copy of the data on the target system. Using this TimeView copy for reporting, testing, and other operations, Butler conserves resources on the production server and does not disrupt the ongoing replication between the servers.

"With EchoStream for AIX protecting our business, we have the confidence for out-of-the-box thinking," adds Butler. "If we can dream it, we can do it."

Vision Solutions has prepared a paper that describes the benefits of data replication in AIX environments using EchoStream technology. Please click here to learn more by downloading the informative paper Achieving Rapid Data Recovery for IBM AIX Environments.
