IBM DB2 V11.1 updates and new product signature

With the IBM DB2 V11.1 family of products, IBM DB2 is announcing a new product signature that indicates whether an incremental update within the same version and release contains new functionality in addition to fixes, defect support, and security updates. The official DB2 product signature consists of four parts, in the format VV.RR.MM.FF where:

  • VV = Version number
  • RR = Release number
  • MM = Modification number
  • FF = Fix pack number

The modification number has been zero in previous releases of DB2 (and associated products like dashDB™ and BigSQL). Because of this, the modification number has been excluded from the product signature. Beginning with the IBM DB2 V11.1.1.1 modification and fix pack release (date December 15, 2016), the DB2 product signature will now include the modification number to indicate whether new functionality exists in an incremental update. (DB2 V11.1.1.1 is both a modification and a fix pack for IBM DB2 V11.1 GA; it contains both product fixes and new features/functionality.)

DB2 Connect V11.1.1.1 updates

DB2 Connect V11.1.1.1, Fix pack 1 integrates IBM DB2 for z/OS, IBM DB2 for i, and other enterprise data with client/server, web, and service-oriented architecture (SOA) applications. This solution is designed to manage your enterprise information wherever it is stored. For those enterprises that rely on DB2 for z/OS and DB2 for i servers as the cornerstone of their agile business, DB2 Connect delivers improved application enablement and a robust, highly scalable communications infrastructure for connecting web, Windows, UNIX, and Linux applications to data.

DB2 Connect V11.1.1, Fix pack 1 improves connectivity, ease of application deployment, availability, and security for the applications that connect to either DB2 for z/OS or DB2 for i. Version 11.1.1, Fix pack 1 includes significant feature enhancements that can help improve programmer productivity, deliver a more robust infrastructure, and enable the flexible deployment of DB2 Connect technology. DB2 Connect can also help you reduce administration costs with advances in performance, manageability, and installation.

DB2 Connect is available in several editions to provide flexible licensing options and address usage scenarios in small organizations as well as large-scale enterprises:

  • DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition is for smaller installations and lower-usage applications licensed with Authorized User and Floating User Single Install metrics.
  • DB2 Connect Application Server Edition provides licensing linked to specific applications. The DB2 Connect Application Server Edition introduces the Virtual Processor Core (VPC) license metric to facilitate hybrid cloud deployments. The VPC metric is sold as a monthly license charge. You can acquire the product directly online with the option to deploy either on-premises or on cloud.
  • DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition provides increased flexibility in deployment, enabling access across an enterprise.
  • DB2 Connect Advanced Editions enhance the security and reliability of your organization's existing DB2 server investments, enable increased flexibility and ease of new programming languages and tools, and help improve support efforts to increase the performance and security of database applications. Using the IBM pureQuery® technology that is included in the advanced editions of DB2 Connect, you can boost the SQL execution performance of your data server while helping to protect your data from SQL injection attacks and other types of database application security risks.
  • DB2 Connect Unlimited Advanced Edition features IBM Configuration Manager for z/OS to help you improve the manageability of your connectivity and DB2 z/OS environment.
