ProData Computer Services, Inc., a developer of programmer utilities on the System i, has announced the general availability of DBU 8.0, the newest version of its popular database utility.

Features of this newest release include a GUI fully integrated with WebSphere Development Studio Client (WDSc), the new Rational Developer for System i, or any Eclipse-based IDE making it easy for developers to work in the latest development environments. The DBU/RDB plug-in also is fully integrated into the graphical environment and allows access to remote databases such as MySQL, Oracle, and other non-System i data.

DBU 8.0 extends engine enhancements for the traditional green screen and the graphical user interface for continued quality performance. Enhancements include:

·        SQL facility that allows more complex searches

·        Data exports to comma-delimited files and xml configurations

·        Display of database triggers on physical files

·        Advanced record duplication functionality

·        Advanced key field arrangement control

·        Capability to help migrate DDS-based physical files to SQL tables by exporting SQL data definitions

DBU 8.0, while required for V6R1, is also compatible with i5/OS versions as far back as V4R2. Using DBU 8.0, analysts can research or edit field contents, reactivate deleted records, which can be included under the new search functions, and create database maintenance applications.

Security can be tailored to user-profiles and audit trails can monitor file modifications. No matter whether the user chooses the traditional green screen or the graphical interface, performance and features of DBU retain the same full functionality.

"With this product release, we continue to offer innovative enhancements to make this a ‘must-have' database tool for all System i shops, no matter where you are on IBM's System i roadmap," said Allen Hartley, owner of ProData.

DBU 8.0 is designed to complement other ProData productivity utilities for the System i and can be packaged with DBU Audit, DBU/RDB for remote DBU access, RDB Connect for remote access within RPG applications, SQL/PRO, RSP (RPG Server Pages) and additional programmer tools offered by ProData.
