Ending Copy Screen
Editor's Note: In the December 1992 Tech Talk, we published a tip by Bruce Knoll, which described the use of the Start Copy Screen (STRCPYSCN) command so that an operator at display station A can see what the user at display station A is doing. Bruce mentioned two ways to terminate the copy screen function: having the user at display station A sign off or run the End Copy Screen (ENDCPYSCN) command. Our editor's note pointed out a possible problem, in that the user at display station A could have limited capabilities or no access to a command line, preventing him from running ENDCPYSCN. With this background in mind, read on.
There is a third way to end the copy screen function, which addresses the concerns in the editor's note. The solution is for the user at display station B (the receiving or target device) to end copy screen.
Since the keyboard is locked, the only way to accomplish it is by pressing the SysRq key, typing ENDCPYSCN at the input line appearing at the bottom of the screen and then pressing Enter. This immediately ends the copy screen, releasing both terminals. Whether the user at display station A has a command line and authorization to the ENDCPYSCN command is, therefore, a moot point. - Neil Palmer
