VMware vSphere with Operations Management, V5.0 combines VMware's virtualization platform with operational insight into virtual environments for monitoring, performance, and capacity management. Monitoring the environment provides a simple, visual, and holistic view of the entire virtualization environment. VMware vSphere with Operations Management provides the ability to diagnose performance data across VMs, clusters, and farms to form intelligent trends and insights. VMware vSphere with Operations Management also enables proactive performance management and offers improved availability for vSphere. Capacity management allows unused VMs to be reclaimed and right-sized over provisioned VMs.

There are three new offerings: VMware vSphere Operations Management Standard, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus. Each edition of vSphere Standard, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus is combined with vCenter Operations Management Standard Edition. A new group of three VMware vSphere with Operations Management Acceleration Kits (AK) are included as well. Each kit supports up to six CPUs and has one instance of vCenter Server Standard included. VMware vSphere with Operations Management Standard AK includes VMware vSphere with Operations Management Standard and vCenter Standard. VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise AK includes an upgrade to VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise and vSphere Data Protection (VDP) Advanced. VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus AK upgrades to VMware vSphere with Operations Management Enterprise Plus and also includes VDP Advanced.

Each edition is licensed on a CPU basis, as is VMware vSphere; and comes with 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year subscription options. As with all VMware, software support must be sold at the time of purchase with the license and subscription. IBM has a full suite of ServicePacs that can be purchased to support the client.
