As Software & Management Associates (SMA) enters its fourth decade, the company has announced the rebranding of its flagship IT automation software product from OpCon/xps to OpConX5. The product will now generally be referred to as OpCon. The rebranding is being announced in conjunction with major enhancements in the capabilities of OpCon. These include:
- The introduction of Enterprise Manager as the replacement for the old Visual Basic user interface
- The introduction of Notification Manager as the replacement for the old ENS (event notification service)
- Replacements for History and Audit Management
- Many new OpCon functions as requested by the existing client partners
Enterprise Manager Gets Bold New User Interface
Based on the Eclipse framework and JAVA, Enterprise Manager (EM) replaces the old Visual Basic User Interface. The new EM supports powerful new capabilities such as plug-ins, undocking of panels, more graphic displays, lists and reports, and “access anything from anywhere” technology. The EM delivers unprecedented convenience enabling users to discover their own most efficient work methods.
IBM i LSAM Message Management
SMA’s agent (LSAM = local schedule activity monitor) is always being enhanced and expanded, extending the power of OpCpon into the full range of capabilities supported by the IBM i operating system. The latest enhancement is a dramatic extension of this agent’s Message Management service. More than ever, OpCon becomes a single solution for all system automation needs, with the addition and expansion of these capabilities:
- Capture, store and share any data element from message text (primary or secondary)
- Condition unlimited message response commands with comparisons to message content, to LSAM variables or to any text string
- Qualify message response by generic job names, generic or specific user IDs, generic message ranges
- Qualify message response by an array of date and time windows or limits
- Qualify message response by thresholds (numbers of incidents), including threshold expiration date/time
