Halcyon Software, a global leader in systems management software, announced the immediate availability of an updated version of Systems Operations Suite, the leading monitoring and automated operations solution for IBM i.  In addition to providing full visibility of messages and alerts generated by IBM i systems, this new release adds important new features that give even tighter control of mission-critical applications and business processes.  It also enables managed service providers, corporate data centers and end-users to further automate the monitoring and management of critical tasks and IT systems to ensure they run at peak efficiency and that maximum system uptime is maintained.

According to Carole Chandler, Sales and Marketing Director of Halcyon Software, “Systems Operations Suite 5.0 has been developed in response to feedback from our User Group to ensure that it continues to meet their evolving technical and business needs.  It provides even higher levels of automation enabling organizations to achieve significant improvements in efficiency, productivity and service delivery without requiring additional manpower resources.”

A new Object Monitor module can be used to check any object within the IBM i environment and allows Journal Receivers to be quickly and easily located and deleted based on age or when they were last used.  Business rules can also be set to automatically delete Journal Receivers after a certain period of time to free up large volumes of valuable disk space and increase the efficiency of housekeeping processes for IBM i systems.

Systems Operations Suite 5.0 now provides higher levels of security protection by automating the monitoring of the IBM Audit Journal, sending real-time alerts whenever system values are changed or new entries are written.  It also ensures that important user profiles remain ‘enabled’ and tracks any failed logon attempts.

If pre-configured system thresholds are breached, automatic alerts can be sent to authorized staff by email or SMS and viewed on the Halcyon Enterprise Console.  A free app is also available for Apple and Android smartphones or tablets, providing a portable view of the console that enables IT staff to manage critical applications, processes and SNMP devices.  ERP software and other core business applications can also be proactively monitored including Infor (M3 and Movex), Infor XA, System21, SAP, JD Edwards, Misys and High Availability solutions.

Another new feature is the Custom Task Monitor, which is an optional plug in module that provides an easy way to schedule simple or complex IT tasks such as calling a program or API to provide regular checking processes necessary for efficient operations.  It also enables users to receive notifications or configure automatic, corrective actions if processes fail to run as scheduled.

Existing users can upgrade to the latest version of System Operations Suite free of charge.  For further information, please visit www.halcyonsoftware.com

About Halcyon Software

Halcyon Software is a global leader in multi-platform systems management solutions that reduce the complexity and cost of monitoring critical business systems, core applications and processes. They help companies prevent business disruption, increase the efficiency of their IT services and save costs.  In most cases, Halcyon’s solutions increase IT efficiency by 30 – 40 percent, delivering significant savings and a rapid return on investment – often in less than six months.

Halcyon achieves this in three ways:

Monitoring: Halcyon’s monitoring software keeps a vigilant watch on the most critical IT systems and core applications on which business depends. IT administrators receive early warnings of any potential problems or ‘bottlenecks’ before they affect the organization.

Automating: Halcyon enables IT teams to set up ‘self–corrective actions’ to issues or problems to ensure that they never impact the business again.  IT teams can also automate regular tasks, checks or jobs which would normally be undertaken manually. This frees up valuable resources, saves costs and helps to eliminate human error.

Reporting: Halcyon’s cloud-based reporting solution proves to management that the IT team is achieving the service levels demanded by the business or flags any issues so they can be quickly resolved.

Halcyon’s products support IBM Power Systems servers running IBM i, AIX, Linux and Windows. With regional offices in the United States, Australia and UK, Halcyon also has a network of partners and distributors supporting territories world-wide.
