Collaboration includes enhanced PHP RPMs and support services

Today Seiden Group, specialists in IBM i open source development, announces an exclusive partnership with Chubu System Co., Ltd (CSC) to bring business-ready Community PHP for IBM i to organizations in Japan. Their joint service offering, known as CS^2, includes migration to Community PHP, access to an enhanced, tested repository of PHP RPMs, and technical support.

In December 2019, IBM and Perforce Software released license-free Community PHP as the next generation replacement to Zend Server Basic, which reaches end-of-life in June 2021. Almost immediately, IBM i organizations began requesting help from Seiden Group for Community PHP implementations, special requirements, and support. Since then, Seiden Group has updated and enhanced numerous modules to work with Community PHP, including both commonly used modules such as ibm_db2, SSH2, and LDAP, and specialty modules.

“Our collaboration with CSC began with us enhancing ibm_db2 to support double byte character sets,” explains Alan Seiden, Principal of Seiden Group. “From the beginning, they impressed us with their technical depth and their commitment to helping their customers achieve stable, responsive PHP environments. It’s a pleasure and an honor to work with them to support their customer base.”

According to Yoshiki Ushida, Technical Architect at CSC, Seiden Group’s response times and technical expertise gave CSC confidence in recommending Community PHP to their clients.

“We quickly realized that Seiden Group was the right team to help us bring this amazing technology to Japan’s IBM i community,” says Ushida. “CS^2 incorporates the only repository that guarantees DBCS compatibility. It’s also the only repository that provides the additional security of signed RPM packages. Through this partnership, the number of secure, supported, DBCS-compatible packages available with CS^2 will continue to increase.”
