Profound Logic, an innovator in IBM i application development solutions, announces the extension of their Services organization to include Node.js-focused projects.
Profound Logic has offered world-class professional services for Enterprise IBM i Application Modernization since the company was founded in 1999. Over the years, the Profound Logic Services Team has adapted to provide training and help with projects dealing with new technologies on IBM i (also known as System i, iSeries, and AS/400).
Today, Profound Professional Services supports general development projects for any kind of application, in addition to:
- Enterprise application modernization planning
- Mass conversion/modernization of 5250 green screens
- New web and mobile application development
- Legacy source code modernization
- Profound Logic product training
The Services organization is focused on helping companies meet their modernization and development goals on time and on budget. The development experts that make up Profound's Services team also help companies understand what's possible and create a roadmap of how to get there, if they are unsure of what path to take.
"Our products, including the Profound UI Visual Designer and Genie, and now Profound.js, were designed to be easy to use and learn. But often, we come across businesses that need extra help in certain areas," explains Robert Ferguson, Director of Professional Services at Profound Logic. "For instance, a business might need help mapping out their path from green screens-to-GUI interfaces, or need a hand with newer technologies, like Mobile and Node.js development. Whatever their needs are, we have the talent to help them meet their goals."
Professional Services Allow Businesses to Focus on Their Business
Profound Logic customers San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) are an excellent example of what can be accomplished by working with Profound's Services organization. SDRC needed to create a mobile version of their in-house business application and roll out the app to 21 regional centers that support California's community of developmentally disabled individuals.
Nancy Lorch, SDRC's technical director and head of the mobilization project, turned to Profound Logic to accelerate the project since her development team was not familiar with creating mobile applications. The Profound Services team worked hands-on with Nancy's team, and within a matter of months delivered mobile apps that exceeded SDRC's expectations. The Regional Centers' service coordinators no longer have to return to their offices to enter or view vital client information. And all of this was accomplished through Profound Logic Services.
"That's part of the beauty of the relationship with Profound," states Lorch. "They build these apps and I don't have to go through a learning curve. They do a great job. They are professional, know what they are doing, and they can get the product out quickly."

New Services Offerings for Node.js
Profound Logic recently released a new product, Profound.js, which provides tools for Node.js development. The tools include: a free development Framework; a WYSIWYG Visual Designer; a multi-platform Connector that supports IBM i, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, and more; and a self-service RPG-to-Node.js Conversion tool (in beta).
"Node.js is one of the most exciting things to come along for enterprises in a long time," states Profound Logic CEO, Alex Roytman. "Now businesses that run on IBM i have the options to upgrade their outdated RPG code into Free-format RPG or Node.js. Node is enterprise-ready, supported by millions of developers, and creates a modular environment that is much easier to maintain and develop than legacy monolithic applications."
For businesses that are struggling with legacy source code maintenance or that want to extend their business applications to include Node.js functionality, but don't have the time or staff to help with the transition, Profound Logic's Professional Services can help. Profound's Services team can also assist with converting RPG to Node.js and ensure the accuracy of the conversion.
"By supporting Node.js and assisting customers with Node-based projects, we're showing that we really are invested in the future of their business," states Robert Ferguson. "We are excited to meet with businesses using RPG, Node.js, or who want to use both, and discuss their goals. I guarantee that it's possible to accomplish projects they never knew were possible."
