Focuses on all technologies that boost the power of IBM i applications

System i Developer today announces that the next RPG & DB2 Summit will feature training on new and under-utilized IBM i capabilities that help organizations create innovative new applications. The three-day conference will take place October 17-19, 2017 at the Doubletree Park Place in Minneapolis, MN.

Hosted by Susan Gantner, Jon Paris and Paul Tuohy, the RPG & DB2 Summit focuses on progressive tips and techniques that can be used immediately by IBM i developers and database engineers to improve their applications.

In October, the agenda expands to cover new topics such as Python for RPGers, how to bring the power of Watson to RPG applications, and SQL aggregation. It also incorporates sessions that will introduce hidden gems in DB2 for i as well as anticipated Q4 2017 updates to the database.

“When organizations proactively explore better ways to build applications using IBM i data and business logic, they tend to create more innovative solutions,” explains Susan Gantner. “We continue to focus on helping RPG developers embrace SQL, ILE, free form RPG, tools like RDi, and techniques to make their applications available in a browser, on a mobile device, or as a web service.

“But many IBM i development teams also want to understand when and how to use newer DB2 capabilities, open source languages and other non-traditional tools to achieve their goals more efficiently. We particularly see a lot of confusion about the role of open source for business-oriented IBM i applications, so we’ve asked a panel of IBM i open source experts to lead an open discussion and Q&A on that topic.”

In addition to the three-day Summit conference, an optional fourth day of hands-on workshops on October 16, 2017 provides an intensive dive into one of four vital technology areas — SQL, RSE/RDi, Service Programs or PHP.

“Overall, we want to meet IBM i teams where they are. Some are pushing the boundaries of the latest in RPG and SQL, web, mobile, web services and open source. Others are still trying to get good grasp on procedures, ILE, replacing SEU with RDi and understanding the power that SQL can bring to their applications. Virtually any RPGer who wants to move forward in their use of the IBM i platform will find plenty to learn at the Summit.”

Online registration for the RPG & DB2 Summit can be accessed via the System i Developer website. The early bird registration rate of $1,295 is in effect through August 31, 2017.
