The new solution offers remote journal availability without the complexity.

High availability and disaster recovery are becoming more important to companies as they grow and collect more data and information. The IBM i is known for its inbuilt stability, but on occasion a system can become unavailable due to a variety of reasons.

DR4i is based on the renowned remote journal technology provided free within the IBM i operating system. However, the receivers attached to a remote journal cannot be used to update objects on the target system using APYJRNCHG commands. Shield has developed a technology which allows the IBM APYJRNCHG command to be used with remote journal receivers.

DR4i is only required on the target system thus reducing implementation and licensing costs. The base license includes the ability to configure up to two journals, with additional journals requiring additional licenses. A new PHP-based interface allows a simple but complete view of the DR4i status. Email capability for error notification which can be configured by the users is also provided in the product.

Features

  • Easy installation and configuration
  • Remote journal replication technology
  • Uses IBM APYJRNCHG commands for efficient applying of data
  • Email notification of registered messages

Shield Advanced Solutions President Chris Hird says, “Some companies do not need the capabilities of a full high availability product such as Shield’s RAP, Receiver Apply Program, but do require a synchronous copy of the database and journaled objects. DR4i uses the same technology as RAP, with simple installation and management requirements.

“A new PHP-based interface has been developed that further reduces the effort required to manage the product," says Hird. Installation can be achieved in hours instead of days, and configuration of new journal environments is easily carried out by IBM i administration personnel.”

DR4i installs as an IBM licensed program product. The product ships with a 30-day trial license which allows full use of all of the products functions. After expiration of the trial period a new license can be obtained from Shield Advanced Solutions.

Base pricing is by IBM processor group. For additional information, please visit the Shield Advanced Solutions Ltd. website at www.shield.on.ca, or write Chris Hird at chrish@shield.on.ca.
