Vision Solutions reported yesterday that Heritage Building Society, Ltd., Queensland, one of Australia's most respected financial institutions, is using Vision's EchoStream and EchoCluster for AIX to eliminate extended unplanned downtime, reduce disaster recovery failover times, and meet high service level agreements.

Heritage says that providing maximum system availability enables it to honor its "people first" culture. At any given moment, more than 300,000 members rely on applications running on their database system, which supports more than 100 branches and 24/7 services such as online and telephone banking. Member account information must be completely protected yet readily available at all times--any data interruption or loss could be disastrous, according to Heritage.

"EchoStream ensures our platform, along with all services and functionality, are replicated to our disaster recovery site within seconds," says John Williams, Heritage's general manager Technology and Payment Systems. "The solution significantly reduces any possible disaster recovery time."

Before implementing Vision Solutions' award-winning products for AIX on its IBM production and disaster recovery servers, Heritage's existing production host system hardware neared the end of its useful life, meaning upgrades were necessary. Heritage needed an enhanced recovery and downtime management solution.

EchoStream includes Vision Right Time CDP, which can almost instantaneously recover applications and data to any point in time, not just the last backup point. With IBM Systems and continuous data protection, Heritage can quickly reverse accidental damage or deletion, or malicious data corruption, even if the damage has already been replicated to the backup servers. Vision's EchoCluster provides rapid, remote or local failover capabilities, delivering 24/7 error-free availability for AIX clusters. Its AutoGuard and SwitchAssistant features ensure that automatic failovers or planned switching are fast and error free.

"IBM POWER users, such as Heritage, are recognizing the value of the EchoStream and EchoCluster solutions to their business and customers," says Allan Campbell, Vision Solutions' vice president of Sales for Asia Pacific. "And as with all of our offerings, Vision ensures they can achieve impressive service levels at industry-low cost-of-ownership."

From IT departments to the board room, managers have seen the importance of business uptime and data protection for continued success, productivity and profitability.
