Does anybody know of a way to determine what software release an AS/400 is running under besides going through option 10 of menu LICPGM?

Display or retrieve the data area Q-SYS/Q5738SS1. It has what you need.

I believe that if a user prints out just about anything [i.e., use OUTPUT(*PRINT)], it will put the version and release number in the top left- hand corner as the second field. The first field is the product number (5738SS1 for example) with the second field as the release level (V2R1M1) and the third field as the date (930130). The user could look at just about any system-generated report and see this. The example I just used was from a user that sent a tape in *S36 format and included the SAVOBJ report. Vendor application programs may not display this information.
