Q: Is there a command interface to the Find String (option 25) in PDM?

A: The Find String PDM (FNDSTRPDM) command is run when you choose PDM option 25. It can be used in a CL program as well, which is very helpful for scanning source members.

A word of caution, however. If you execute the FNDSTRPDM command repeatedly in an interactive CL program without using the Reclaim Resource (RCLRSC) command, the system will eventually be brought to a halt.

We learned this the hard way. It seems that for each use of the FNDSTRPDM command, the file QPDA/QDUODSPF is opened, but never closed. The command does not clean up after itself and the percent of auxiliary storage used will climb. Once the RCLRSC command is run or the job ends, the percent of storage used drops back to its previous levels. So, if you decide to use FNDSTRPDM, use it with care.
