In our company, we have several programs that generate printer output containing barcodes. Unfortunately, we also have some old printers that are not able to print barcodes (i.e., old matrix printers). In this case, the AS/400 displays message CPA3388, which the system operator can answer with C, G, T, or H.
You don't have to manually answer this message every time the output comes through an old printer. The operating system provides the ability to answer these types of questions automatically. With the Add Reply List Entry (ADDRPYLE) command, you can add the number of this message and the appropriate answer-e.g., G for go. (See 1 for an example using the ADDRPYLE command.) The next time the output comes on an old printer, the message will be answered automatically, and the printer will print the output automatically without any user intervention.
