Solutions are expected to streamline and simplify purchasing, inventory management, and logistics processes.

International Business Systems, the leading software application supplier for wholesale and distribution, has announced that wood processor Derome Timber has chosen IBS to help streamline its  operations and central warehouse functions.

Implementing new business systems using IBS Wood, IBS' industry-specific software application for the wood processing industries, Derome Timber will better optimize its inventory management processes as well as shorten lead times to its customers.
Derome Timber, one of Sweden's largest wood processing companies and part of the larger Derome Group, markets wood products from three different sawmills in western Sweden. Producing a wide range of products for the Swedish construction market, as well as exporting approximately half of its overall production, Derome Timber Group has annual sales of around SEK 1 billion ($142 million).
Derome Timber identified a need to further optimize their central inventory processes and shorten their lead times to customers, and quickly discovered that only a business system with industry-specific functionality would satisfy their requirements. After evaluating several vendors, Derome selected the IBS Enterprise for Wood, IBS' industry-specific application solution for the wood processing industries.
"Since the business system, IBS Enterprise for Wood is such a well designed and established solution for our industry, the final choice was quite obvious," said Anders Thorild, CEO of Derome Timber. "We have great expectations of these new business systems, which include streamlining and simplifying our purchasing, inventory management and logistics processes, and ultimately shortening the lead times to customers."
The initial implementation of the system from IBS will start in August 2009 and is expected to be fully operational in just over six months. A second implementation stage encompassing the three sawmills is scheduled for the autumn of 2010.
"We are proud that Derome Timber has chosen us," commented Louise Öström, Vice President, IBS Nordics. "The entire wood processing industry is changing in the way it manages its systems and processes. Historically an industry underpinned by custom-made IT systems, we are seeing increasing demand for business software like ours to deliver enhanced and best-practice functionality. As the only provider of specific business systems for the industry, we look forward to the future with confidence."

International Business Systems US

After a turbulent few years, IBS has become a revitalized business with long-tem and profitable structure. Now in its 33rd year, IBS is still the world leader in distribution resource management with offices and partners in over 40 locations and more than 4000 customers throughout the world.

International Business Systems, IBS, was founded in 1978, when Staffan Ahlberg and Gunnar Rylander decided to turn the IT division of Ekonomisk Företagsledning into an independent company. The company’s first major success was a global assignment to develop an order processing system for all of Alfa Laval’s international subsidiaries. This type of close, long-term partnership set the company on a course of exceptionally close cooperation with customers, which is the backbone of the current strategy for recovery.

The company joined the Stockholm Stock exchange in 1986 and around that time established close cooperation with IBM. IBS became one of the leading suppliers of software for the IBM AS/400 (now Series i). In 2001, IBS set a new record by achieving the highest transaction volumes ever recorded in IBM’s testing lab in Rochester, New York for the AS/400.

During the second half of last year, IBS launched an extensive program to transform inefficiency and loss into a revitalized operation with long-range profit-able growth. A new organization and an extensive cost-reduction program yielded quick results and the last two quarters of the year were much stronger than the first two. This trend has continued into 2011.

The appointment of Johan Bergs as new CEO and the development of a fundamentally new platform for business has turned the company in the right direction and has created a confidence and renewed focus which is characterizing the new IBS.
