System i Developer, the consortium of top IBM i educators and producers of the RPG & DB2 Summit, today releases an expanded version of their popular tip sheet download, Favorite Keyboard Shortcuts for RSE. The updated download, produced by RSE expert and System i Developer partner Susan Gantner, includes new shortcuts, a shortcut section for the RSE Debugger, and a short tutorial on how to use Service Entry Points to simplify debugging.
"RPG developers tend to be productivity fanatics, so when we adopt a new tool, we need to learn all the tricks fast or we find ourselves bouncing back to our old comfort-zone tool," says Gantner. "We just have to get past that initial hump in the learning curve to find out how much more productive than SEU RSE really is. I hope that this tips sheet and the companion RSE Quick Start Guide will help the IBM i community with that."
"These last 12 to 18 months have been exciting because we've seen a significant increase in the number of RPGers moving from SEU or WDSC to the newer RDi environment. It's a smart move not only from productivity point of view, but from a personal branding point of view, too. When people see you coding Free Form RPG in a graphical IDE, that "old technology coder" image just melts away."
Gantner's Favorite RSE Keyboard Shortcuts tips sheet and RSE Quick Start Guide are freely available to the IBM i community for download at www.systemideveloper.com/downloads.html.
Both documents will be used in Gantner's RSE sessions and Hands-On Workshop at the upcoming RPG & DB2 Summit, September 30-October 2, 2014 at the DoubleTree Park Place in Minneapolis, MN. The Summit also features courses on RPG IV, free form RPG, embedded SQL, DB2 for i, SQL tuning, PHP, Web enablement technologies, Web services, mobile application development and other modern IBM i development techniques.
