Software developer mrc announces the release of User-Defined Views within m-Power. m-Power is a web application development platform that businesses use across their organizations to create web applications such as report-writing, Business Intelligence, executive dashboards, e-commerce, customer portals, and mobile applications to name a few.
This enhancement is designed to help businesses address a common problem: the reporting bottleneck. In many organizations, reporting requests run through a single department or individual. They must build and customize the reports for end users—many of which want their reports customized in different ways. The problem: These customizations waste time. The report author often gets bogged down with countless change requests from end users—which delays the reporting process and hurts efficiency across the entire organization.
What are User-Defined Views?
User-Defined Views is a new m-Power feature designed to help businesses facing this issue. It lets end users customize their applications on their own—giving them control of the formatting, layout, and data displayed in their report. This enhancement helps businesses:
- Save time: Because end users can customize their own reports, they make fewer reporting requests—which saves time for all involved. The report creator is no longer bogged down with change requests, and the end users instantly get the report customizations they need.
- Create a scalable reporting process: Scalability is a common challenge with the traditional reporting process. As the organization grows (and more users need reports), the reporting process becomes more complex and time-consuming. User-Defined Views provides a scalable reporting solution that grows with the company. It lets multiple users share a single report, yet customize it to fit their exact needs.
- Gain better insight into their data: With traditional reporting, users receive static reports which display pre-defined data in a pre-set format. With User-Defined Views, users can customize their data layout however they wish. They can transform a single report into many different reports, save them for easy access later, and even share those reports with other users. This approach brings flexibility to end user reporting, and gives users better insight into their data.
"The traditional reporting process is still a productivity bottleneck in many organizations," says Rick Hurckes, mrc's Services Director. "We’re excited to see how this new enhancement helps m-Power users streamline their self-service reporting."
