m-Power Support for Tomcat 7 Application Server Improves Security, Stability, Performance

The latest version of Tomcat adds new features and full support for Java Servlet 3.0.

Today, software tool developer michaels, ross & cole, ltd. (mrc) announces Tomcat 7 support within m-Power. m-Power is software that rapidly creates web applications such as report-writing, Business Intelligence, executive dashboards, e-commerce, customer portals, and mobile applications to name a few.

Tomcat, the application server that comes pre-bundled with m-Power, is one of the most popular open source application servers available. Its reliable performance, flexibility, and active developer community make it one of the most widely used application servers for businesses worldwide, and the recommended option for m-Power (though users are free to use most any application server they wish).

Tomcat 7 (the latest version of Tomcat) adds some great new features that can improve m-Power applications. While there are too many new features to list, here are three important ways Tomcat 7 can help m-Power applications:

  • Better security: Applications built with m-Power are even more secure when using Tomcat 7, which improves upon Tomcat's already strong security. It adds additional security options and introduces new features designed to protect applications against common methods of attack.
  • Better stability: Tomcat 7 adds new features that will detect and prevent memory leaks found in outside APIs, applications, or code--a common cause of application instability.
  • Better performance: Much of the internal code in Tomcat 7 has been cleaned up and improved, which will lead to better overall m-Power application performance. In addition, it also offers full Java Servlet 3.0 support, which gives m-Power access to many new features, such as:
    • Asynchronous processing
    • Web-fragment support
    • Annotation support
