ACOM Solutions is now shipping V8.1.00 of its EZeDocs/400 document output and EZPayManager/400 payment solutions. Along with out-of-the-box compliance with IBM i 6.1, the release includes productivity and convenience features for package and document distribution, it was announced by Senior Vice President James R. Scott.

EZeDocs/400 allows companies to create electronic templates for any document with the interactive EZDesigner/400 drag-and-drop design tool, store the templates in the EZeDocs/400 software, merge them with data for batch or single document production, and distribute them as laser printed or electronic documents.

EZPayManager/400 enables them to establish universal payment management environments that employ MICR laser checks, electronic ACH payments, and options for printed, faxed, or emailed remittance advice in any combination.

V8.1.00 of EZeDocs/400 enhances the solution's barcode capabilities with the UPS MaxiCode 2D- two dimensional--format, which carries more fields than the conventional 1D format. Conventional barcodes get wider as more data is encoded. MaxiCode symbols resemble barcodes but appear as a 1 inch square with a bulls-eye in the middle, surrounded by a pattern of hexagonal dots. MaxiCode symbols can store about 93 characters of information. The centered bulls-eye is useful in automatically locating and identifying MaxiCode symbols, enabling them to be scanned even on rapidly moving packages. The additional fields result in reduced package handling, since they enable shippers, handlers and receivers to obtain far more detailed information both in transit and at the destination point.

For document intensive applications, V8.1.00 enhances a feature that adds electronic distribution of documents in the pre-existing "sets" feature to the software's previous email, PDF, and fax capabilities. For example, Scott said, document-heavy processes such as insurance operations often must produce and distribute multiple forms. EZeDocs/400 enables users to organize these groups of documents as sets by running them through a merge process to generate them all at once.

"EZeDocs/400 is in widespread use by manufacturers, distributors and wholesalers and we think these package-handling enhancements will be very well received," Scott said. "Similarly, the ‘sets' feature should simplify paper handling in many document-intensive applications, making the full range of distribution options available."
