Developers have been hard at work on WebSmart PHP and now, Business Computer Design Int'l. Inc. (BCD) is making the anticipated beta version available to everyone who wants to evaluate it. For complete details visit WebSmart PHP and click on the green bar.

With precision, BCD's development partner, ExcelSystems, hit its target release date for the beta version of WebSmart PHP, which was first announced in April at the COMMON user conference. "This is great news as this much awaited multi-man-year PHP Web application development tool project is now being put into the hands of the System i programming community. To have hit our beta target release date is very satisfying to our entire development group who is involved in this important project." says Eric Figura, BCD's director of sales and marketing. "We have had hundreds of requests for additional information on WebSmart PHP and more than two hundred beta test requests in less than two months," he adds.

WebSmart PHP Opens Doors

WebSmart PHP helps System i programmers create PHP-based Web applications that run on the System i and other platforms including Linux, Unix, and Windows servers. "It opens the doors to a many new possibilities. Effectively, you can run with or without a System i in the mix. However, we avidly promote the System i platform. Aside from accessing database files that reside on the System i, database interoperability is extended to all mainstream platforms that support PHP. We are going to see the coexistence of both ILE and PHP when PHP is called for," says Figura.

WebSmart PHP helps you through every step of development so you can create complete Web applications. Programmers with no PHP development experience can use WebSmart's PHP 50-plus templates and other composition tools to construct complete programs in literally just minutes. Central database repositories in either DB2 UDB or MySQL allow you to define business and presentation rules at the database level for leveraging development efforts. WebSmart PHP also offers System i RLA and MySQL interoperability, built-in change management, a visual HTML editor, and other powerful features. WebSmart PHP runs on top of Zend Core and supports all of its functionality. WebSmart PHP also comes with PHP snippets to make it easy to call RPG programs and modules from PHP. The 5,000-plus PHP industry functions have been properly organized in WebSmart's IDE making it even easier to build robust applications.

PHP on the System i has garnered lots of interest since it was first announced. Interest in WebSmart PHP and the combined use of WebSmart PHP and WebSmart ILE in a single IDE has been very strong as well, and it has captured the attention of executives at both IBM and Zend. Says Figura, "We're very pleased to again be on the leading edge of System i Web application innovation and look forward to being instrumental in the success of PHP on the platform."
