New m-Power plug-in gives developers a fast and easy way to generate multilingual web applications.

Software tool developer michaels, ross & cole, ltd. (mrc) has announced m-Power Translate, an m-Power plug-in that brings language translation to transactional web apps. m-Power is software that rapidly creates web applications such as report-writing, business intelligence, executive dashboards, e-commerce, customer portals, and wireless applications, to name a few.

This new plug-in fixes the translation problem currently facing international companies or companies wanting to do business internationally. These companies must hire translators to create and maintain separate applications for each language they wish to reach, which is time consuming and expensive.

m-Power Translate gives these companies a fast and easy way to generate multilingual web apps. Rather than create a different web app for each language, m-Power Translate creates one web app with a different presentation layer for each language. Users simply select which languages they need, and m-Power automatically generates those language-specific presentation layers every time it builds a web app. The image below illustrates the concept of one web application with multiple presentation layers:

Besides the obvious time savings of this method, here are a few benefits of m-Power Translate:

  • Simple maintenance: Any changes made to the one underlying application reflects across all presentation layers. This drastically simplifies maintenance, as users can maintain every language layer with one process.
  • Customized translation: Ordinary language translation is never 100 percent accurate, especially when it comes to translating product names and company terminology. m-Power Translate lets users create a language dictionary with custom translations to ensure that all of their apps are translated perfectly.
  • Intelligent applications: The applications include logic that detects the user's browser language preference and displays the appropriate language layer. In addition, each application provides users with the option to manually switch to a different language.
  • Customizable applications: While each presentation layer shares the same underlying application, users can customize each presentation layer however they wish. For example, a company might want to customize the contact information on each language layer, so prospects will contact the branch local to that area.

"Up until now, creating web applications in multiple languages was expensive and time consuming," says Brian Crowley, mrc's director of Development. "With the new m-Power Translate plug-in, companies can instantly create web apps in any language they desire!"
