Solution provides efficient way to make DB2 data easily available without programming on IBM i.

DB2 Web Service Enabler is now formally available from Krengel Technology--a follow-up to the ever-popular RPG-XML Suite development toolset for IBM i (AS400) shops.

While RPG-XML Suite delivered a customizable RPG-based toolset to facilitate the composition, transmission, and parsing of XML from RPG, DB2 Web Service Enabler can be viewed technically as a true XML replacement for ODBC/JDBC.

At a higher level, DB2 Web Service Enabler is an efficient way to make data stored in a DB2 database easily available to business partners without having to write any programming code on the IBM i. The code needing to be written instead resides on the client side in which Krengel Technology makes a concise API set available to get client PC programmers up and running quickly. The API set allows other popular programming languages like Java, .NET, and PHP to be easily interfaced with the valuable data residing in DB2.

DB2 Web Service Enabler is called as a Web service by external applications and performs data SELECTS, UPDATES, DELETES, or INSERTS. Requests are processed, the requested action is performed, and data is returned as XML.

There are an endless number of practical business data-sharing initiatives that would benefit from DB2 Web Service Enabler. Common data needing to be shared between trading partners include:

  • Purchase orders
  • Invoices
  • Orders
  • Shipments
  • Inventory
  • Customer data
  • Accounts receivable data
  • Accounts payable data
  • Credit card data
  • Product data
  • Service data
  • Warranty/policy data

More information on DB2 Web Service Enabler is available at www.krengeltech.com/i, and the company offers a free 30-day trial.
