Key Information Systems, an IBM Business Partner and systems integrator, recently participated with Habitat for Humanity to help demolish and rebuild homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The project focused on the Musicians Village section of New Orleans' 9th Ward.
The effort was coordinated by IBM in conjunction with a conference it hosted in the city. In New Orleans to attend the conference, several Key employees volunteered for the project. Key also donated $1,000 to the New Orleans Relief Fund of Habitat for Humanity.
Some 30,000 New Orleans homes were destroyed and 250,000 badly damaged in the August 2005 hurricane. Habitat for Humanity plans to rebuild 80 homes over a two-year period.
ôNew Orleans still has a very, very long way to go. Our people jumped at the chance to help and did an outstanding job,ö said Pete Elliot, KeyÆs director of marketing. ôThis was the most significant contribution we've made to any organization in recent memory and the most meaningful IBM event we have ever attended.ö
Key has adopted a corporate commitment to community and charity activities. They have been a major sponsor two years in a row at the Nissan Open which helps support programs run by the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce. And they have supported a variety of youth sports programs as well as the Los Angeles Unified School District.
ôAs a very successful company, we believe it is imperative that we give back to the community,ö stated Lief Morin, president of Key Information Systems. ôIt was very gratifying to be part of this special opportunity coordinated by IBM to assist the people of New Orleans in recovering and rebuilding their homes.ö
