Artech has announced the release of GeneXus X Evolution 1 (GXX EV1), the latest version of its tool for the automatic development of business applications. The new version adds support for Windows and iSeries (System i) environments, and makes it possible to generate world-class Web applications in a highly productive development environment.

GeneXus is an intelligent tool, based on pure knowledge, which allows companies to keep up with the pace of technological innovation by automating the design, development, and maintenance of business applications that can quickly and easily turn changes in reality into business opportunities.

Regarding the new version, Gastón Milano, GeneXus chief architect, said that it was based on four cornerstones: team development, high quality of the generated applications, support for a wide range of platforms, and good developer experience. "GeneXus X Evolution 1 is faster and more user-friendly, includes new and productive teamwork features, provides support for more generators and platforms, and enables the creation of impressive enterprise-level applications," he said.

The improvements made to the developer's experience include more dynamic and interactive queries, fewer administrative tasks, a richer interface, and the possibility of easily developing large applications.

The new version includes integrated support for business process management (BPMN). A profiler and debugger have also been added to make it easier to identify errors and analyze code that may be negatively affecting an application's performance.

In addition, the teamwork capabilities of GeneXus have been significantly improved with the integration of GeneXus Server (GXserver), which provides the foundation for agile software development aimed at saving time and effort in every stage involved in the creation of applications. GXserver allows developers to work as part of a team and collaborate by implementing everyone's contributions.

Teamwork is also simplified by Change Defender, which is aimed at making the propagation of changes integrated and reliable. "With this new feature, developers can forget about coordinating with the rest of the team when...  (consolidating) individual contributions into the project. They can also stop worrying about losing data because all this is automatically solved," explained Milano. With GeneXus X Evolution 1 it is easier to build mission-critical applications that make the most of the advantages of Web 2.0 and can be adapted to the market's requirements.

"GeneXus adds more value, more knowledge and more technology to facilitate the creation of complex solutions required by companies to operate their businesses," said Milano.

GeneXus X Evolution 1 was released during the XIX GeneXus International Meeting, which took place Sept. 14–16. More than 20 activities related to this new technology created by Artech were held.
