Many "Work with..." panels on the AS/400 allow extra parameters to be entered on the command line, overriding the defaults for the options you have typed. For example, the Work with Output Queue (WRKOUTQ) command allows extra parameters to be added for options 1 (send), 2 (change) and 3 (hold).

For instance, you can change several spool files to SAVE(*YES) at the same time by placing an option 2 next to each spool file and typing SAVE(*YES) at the command line before pressing Enter. The SAVE(*YES) will be accepted as an additional parameter for the Change Spool File Attributes (CHGSPLFA) command which is implicitly executed by option 2.

These extra parameters can, if needed, be stored for later retrieval and used at another "Work with..." panel.

First, type the parameters without making any selections from the "Work with..." panel and press Enter. The parameters will be rejected as an invalid command, but they'll be stored in the job message queue, ready to be retrieved again and again by using F9=Retrieve.
