One of the most significant changes in V3R1 is the Integrated File System (IFS). Before V3R1, objects on the AS/400 were seen from the perspective of libraries or Document Library Objects (DLOs). With the IFS, there are several different ways to store and access objects using five file systems:
? The "root" file system supports hierarchical directories with characteristics of the DOS and OS/2 file systems.
? The QSYS.LIB file system supports the AS/400 library structure.
? The QDLS file system is used for document library objects. It supports a hierarchical structure of documents within folders.
? The QLANSrv file system has a directory structure and supports the LAN Server/400 licensed program.
? The QOpenSys file system supports a directory structure that provides compatibility with UNIX systems.
The IFS acts like an umbrella over all of these file systems. It provides a means for accessing objects in any file system.
Use the SAV command to save objects in directories and the RST command to restore them. You can also use the SAV and RST commands for objects in any file system. Options 21 and 23 on the SAVE menu also save objects in directories.
